Fall Trends: Fashion, Hair, Make-Up and At-Home Beauty Breakthroughs for Anti-Aging. Celebrate the Season; Reinvent Your Look.
Do we as moms still do fall trends? Consciously, I mean. It’s really on the edge of the radar I know for most of us. Right? Tap shoes, cleats, jerseys, homecoming mums and even cars (gulp) kind of take center stage for some of us…for now, anyway.
The guilty pleasure of that time in my life before these delicious little necessities was no doubt to research fall trends in a thick, juicy Vogue magazine, the Bible of fashion, after all. How were we to know back in the day, what was to be the latest, greatest fall trend of which we so needed to subtly be a part? We didn’t live our lives online like we do now. I’m not even sure if we had Google back in the early 1990’s lol. Did we? idk.
So as I browse online today to see the trends that the brisk new season ushers in for fashion victims far and wide. I see the plunging V-shaped neckline is making it’s headline (again, I think). Didn’t we just do this? Or is it just me. Remember the green Versace dress of Jennifer Lopez? Yikes. Idk if you can actually call that a neckline…
And what about hair? I think I probably went much of my life without knowing there are actually fall trends for hair! Who knew! I mean, yes, I saw new hair styles and even colors. But to think they were actually consciously delivered to we the people by fashion gurus or celebrity stylists? That is just not something I ever awakened to. Maybe it’s just me. So fall trends for hair: messy. That’s kind of how I would sum it up. But a picture is worth a thousand words. Right?
Girls, I have thick, course, kinky (not the good kind really/ borderline frizzy), clown hair…for lack of a better term. This season belongs to me! Seriously–This, I can do.
I love the cold weather of fall for one reason only. With a European husband from France, we love to dress up. It’s just hard to enjoy fashion in an extremely warm climate. As a beach bum, I’ll probably have to pass on this particular fall trend but oh how I love it. The big, sweet double-button coat, wide arms and perfect baby doll waist line. Complete and utter adorbsness. And if that wasn’t enough, the faux fur hat. Presh. Looks like the skirt length is short short, or long and dramatic (see girl in the background. And gorgeous hair btw right?) Love.
I had a faux fur hat when we lived in DC. My friends told me I was a total fashionista. My significant other at the time thought I was a bit more like a Russian. Eh, whatever. I liked it. I think that’s the important thing about feeling good in your own skin. That fashion should give you a chance to further express who you are. Not who other people want you to be, or look like…but you know, just whatever floats your boat! For every seat there’s an ass. (true story)
Fall trends in accessories: Jewels–go big or go home. Don’t you think? Holy Schnitzel. Idk if I can pull this off but I’d sure like to try!
Statement pieces seem to be a must have this fall season. And I don’t really see a particular theme as we did last year with the edgy-renegade look of spikes (n stuff). This fall season seems to lend itself more to a feminine look to me anyway (as far as the untrained eye goes). Heavy metals with pearls and jewel-studded-pretty much *anything* as I see it.
It’s kind of Wonder Woman meets fairy princess and adds a touch of the Renaissance era, plus heavy metals. I’m both disturbed and intrigued…all at the same time.
Of course there are real live jewelry companies making a go of this trend that will be better suited to most pretty woman’s everyday life as a fashionista. I’m compiling a blog post of my favorites, forthcoming. (so if you have an accessories company you’d like featured, email me! firstname.lastname@example.org)
Fall is fall, you know. I mean, there’s only so much *they* do each year to toy with the tried and true warmer tones that seem to go with the crisp leaves and brisk weather of autumn. But I suppose you’d find that experts know the exact official hue of purple, or gold…that would not be me. But I felt like as far as eye shadows and nail polish for example, there was a wider variety of *acceptable* tones. Brights, pastels and deep traditional fall colors are pretty much everywhere in print for fall trends.
The conscience of the beauty industry might just have grown this year. Well I probably wouldn’t go that far. But what normally fills the pages of New Beauty Magazine each new season are trends in cutting edge services designed to keep Hollywood youth-seekers vibrant and young, has seemingly been replaced with a bit more natural means of turning back the hands of father time. Most of us never undergo the painstaking process of these ‘Hollywood’ types of trends. Well, Botox and fillers of course. That’s even a small town suburbia phenomenon–the Botox party-thing. (I once got scary clown eyebrows from a Botox experience. I’m just saying. Be advised it has a lot to do with how it’s mixed and as much to do with the administrator. Proceed with caution! lol)
Home anti aging trends are more popular than ever. You no longer have to be a Hollywood actress to take advantage of cutting edge beauty breakthroughs. These companies are really starting to put the power of anti-aging into the hands of the people in the at-home beauty tool market. (smart move, as it is a be-zillion dollar industry and growing. Everyone wants to prevent, or reverse the signs of aging. Period. Women, and men alike.)
And as the summer sun has set for the time being, there’s no better opportunity to polish up your skin from all the horrible things we did to it in the name of beach vacations, too much outdoor sports, swimming pools, even driving with the reflection of the sun in car windows can reek havoc. Here are a couple of my favorite things for trending up and looking fall-flawless.
Macro Exfoliator from Rodan and Fields (makers of proactiv). This little gadget has the exact same diamond head tip you’ll find at expensive doctor offices and spas. For the cost of 2 microdermabrasion treatments, you can own your very own and do it one time a week for 5 quick minutes in your robe and bathroom slippers. You can’t imagine the dead skin that this removes. The one thing you don’t want to do as you age is to pile on foundation. Ew. Pass. And there’s only 2 reasons you would–if your skin is dull (queue the Redefine Macro Exfoliator) or you have sun damage/brown spots or hyper pigmentations. And for that, there is Rodan and Fields Reverse. Amazing regimen for purging Melasma and sun damage. This is really something I struggled with personally and after being a die hard Obagi user I tried Reverse. It did more in 3 weeks than Obagi had done in a year (without the peeling and sun sensitivity. That’s a killer…)
The real darling of the at-home beauty tool market for now is the return of the coveted AMP MD Roller. With nearly 200 tiny acupuncture needles on this hand held roller, you’ll experience a bit of a prickly feeling and especially upon the first few times you use it. It actually causes the skin to produce collagen and as the needles perforate the top layer of skin, it allows the night renewing serum to sink in. (Redefine AMP MD Roller System comes with the 60-day night serum capsules. Pricy, but stupendous. Like starch on a freshly pressed white dress shirt. Yeah. You get the picture. Yes. It’s that good.) Bye bye Botox. Also from Rodan and Fields, available in January 2014 (and by invitation only flash sale October 24-31). For more information email@example.com.
The real gift of fall is the opportunity I think, to reinvent ourselves.
Remember that in finding those new beautiful colors for hair and make-up and nails, that nothing at all should match the brown or red spots ON YOUR FACE!!! lol. No. Really. I mean that. If you haven’t made your skin beautiful, and fresh and glowing–what really is the point in finding things to make the rest of your appearance look nice? When I hit forty, I discovered that beautiful skin is the key to looking amazing in every season, in any color. Find a good clinical skincare regimen that works for you, and offers real, visible change…and stick with it.
Wear the heavy metal jewels that make you feel like Wonder Woman, and the furry hat you love even if the rest of your family thinks you look like a displaced Russian. We have this one beautiful life to live, and the change in seasons are just a chance to make things new. If you don’t feel alive and passionate in your soul and you have no more walls left to paint in your house–dye your hair. Go all out; and just be who you are. Pick the fall trends that you love, and make them your own.
